Library hosts free ‘Cloak and Dagger’ show

STEUBENVILLE — The Ohio Valley Cloak and Dagger Company will present “Cloak & Dagger On the Air: Holmes & Watson” at 1 p.m. Saturday at the main branch of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County.

Cloak & Dagger On the Air is an ongoing theatrical series that reimagines old time radio for the modern ear. Each episode is recorded in front of a live audience and released as an installment of the podcast “Midnight Scario.”

“Holmes & Watson” will feature a new adaptation of the classic 1891 Sherlock Holmes story “A Scandal in Bohemia” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, along with a commercial skit for the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County.

Beginning at 12:30 p.m., area musician R.J. Gaudio — Troubadour will perform a set of American classics.

“The main library reopened its doors and is excited to offer programs to the public again,” said Jenn Cesta, public relations coordinator for the library system.

“This entertaining program will take those who remember radio plays back in time while introducing it to a new generation,” Cesta said. “We’re happy people will get their first glimpse of the library’s new addition, too.”

“Holmes & Watson: A Scandal in Bohemia” will be performed by the Wayward Saints, Cloak & Dagger’s acting troupe, featuring Chris Carter, Rob DeSantis, Bethany Fernbaugh, Pete Fernbaugh, Noah Hilton, Emily Hores and Karissa Martin, with John E. Reilly as Sherlock Holmes and Robert Gaudio as Dr. John Watson. Composer/musician Lakin Weaver will provide an original score for the production.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with the library on this production,” said Pete Fernbaugh, artistic director for the troupe. “These Holmes stories are so well-written and exquisitely told that they just naturally translate to a radio format. And, because Conan Doyle is a towering figure in literature, I can’t imagine a better setting for this production than a library.”

This event is free to the public, but seating is limited. Reservations are required by calling the library at (740) 282-9782.

The downtown branch is located at 407 S. Fourth St.

Updates on this and other Cloak & Dagger productions are on the group’s Facebook page.
