JB Green Team project must go back out to bid

STEUBENVILLE — The JB Green Team will have to readvertise for bids for its new Jefferson County headquarters at the industrial park.

At Monday’s meeting, members of the Jefferson-Belmont Solid Waste Authority were told the first round of bids came in 10 percent above the architect’s estimate and would have to be rebid.

“Now we’re targeting next summer, hopefully fall at the latest we’ll be in it,” member Domenick Mucci said.

The project, which will include offices and a garage area, originally had been estimated at $1.1 million, but rocky soil conditions, coupled with higher prevailing wages, have pushed the price tag up.

The design includes an employee parking area as well as a loading dock.

Architect Gus Kayafas in March had said their “best estimate” was construction would cost about $1.38 million. A bid alternative — lining the interior of the truck storage area — was estimated at $35,000.

In other action, the board accepted the resignation of longtime member Terry Bell.

Bell recently accepted an appointment to the Jefferson County Board of Health.
