Grant requested for sprinkler heads

CADIZ — The Harrison County Home requested a $10,305.71 grant for the replacement of 212 sprinkler heads during the April 10 meeting of the Harrison County commissioners.

The grant has been submitted to the International Fire Suppression Alliance Grant Program.

The need to replace 105 sprinklers, 126 uprights, 66 pendants, and 20 vertical side walls at the home, is a part of a new state requirement. Ed Banks, home superintendent, said that the sprinkler system must be changed every 50 years, according to state requirements.

The historical Harrison County Home is now a home for the elderly and is in need of repairs.

Banks also submitted a proposal request regarding the modernization of their elevator, which was installed in 1974.

aAccording to the project description on the proposal, the repairs to the elevator include, the cabin, hoisting equipment, machine room equipment and controls, identifying water and any other penetration issues, along with necessary HVAC and electrical upgrades to meet the current state codes and ADA accessibility guidelines requirements.

Commissioners are currently seeking construction vendors to complete the needed repairs to the county home.
