Automated car wash coming to Sunset by year’s end

STEUBENVILLE — By the end of the year, there will be a fully automated car wash at 2615 Sunset Blvd.

The new owner of the property, Tom Gentile, said it will be the twin of the Express Care Car Wash he’s had in Wintersville for the past 14 years — a two-bay, fully automatic touchless operation.

“We’re pretty excited about it,” said Gentile, a Jefferson County commissioner. “I know the business — the one in Wintersville, we just put all brand-new equipment in and we’re really happy with it.”

Gentile said he’s had his hands in the quick lube businesses for 20 years, so branching out into car care was an easy transition.

“We’ll demo the house first, probably start construction in the summer and be done sometime this fall,” he said, pointing out he’s already hired an architect to work up the plans. “The house (that was there) wasn’t in horrible shape, but it just wasn’t usable for commercial purposes.”

Gentile said he’d been intrigued by the site.

“It has great visibility, and I thought it would be a great project,” he added. “It’s easy when you know the business, you know the numbers.”

He said he’d been looking for a property with a high traffic count, high visibility “and a lot of households in the area.”

“This one had all three,” he said. “Mid-town, with all the shops, there’s just a lot of activity in that area.”
