Unionport plans Apple Stirrin’

UNIONPORT — It’s almost “Apple Stirrin’ Time” in Unionport, as the annual festival in the village is set for Oct. 20-21.

This is the festival’s 40th year of focusing on “old fashion living,” according to festival organizers.

Festival-goers can visit the country kitchen, cabins, “ye old post office,” the country barn, the cheese place or take a look at some antique tractors. There also will be demonstrations of apple butter and apple cider making.

Those with a sweet tooth can snack on apple fritters, apple dumplings and fresh baked ginger and other old fashioned style cookies, and there will be a variety of crafts from local vendors.

Entertainment will feature a Christmas house and a miniature train ride, according to festival organizers

There will be an apple pie baking contest on Oct. 20, and a cruise-in car show will be featured on Oct. 21.

For those with a heartier appetite, there will be home-cooked pancakes and sausage, barbecue chicken, soup beans, cornbread, chili and homemade candy, as well as pies and cakes.

The festival has free admission, parking and entertainment.
