Port authority acquires consultants

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Port Authority met Friday morning and completed negotiations to hire Civil and Environmental Consultants to oversee a grant-funded project to remove underground fuel storage from a potential redevelopment site on south Third Street near state Route 7.

The property, owned by Ohio Motor Group, is about 1.5 acres, said Evan Scurti, executive director of the Jefferson County Port Authority.

“CEC has a great track record throughout the Ohio Valley in this type of remediation work,” Scurti said Friday. “I look forward to working with them.”

The grant is for the project not to exceed $250,000, he noted.

“Our ultimate goal is the ‘No Further Action Needed’ finding of approval from the Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulation,” he said. “That will really open up the property for new development proposals in 2019.”

The work could begin within weeks, he said. The site has access to Route 7 and is south of downtown. He said it would be suitable for light industry, retail or offices and will be a priority to develop because of its location.
