Easter Egg Hunt set for March 31

WEIRTON — The Easter Bunny will be coming to town, bringing bags full of plastic eggs and goodies.

The annual Weirton Easter Egg Hunt, hosted by the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation, will be held at 11 a.m., March 31 at the Edwin J. Bowman Field located behind the Millsop Community Center.

Hancock County Savings Bank is serving as this year’s major sponsor.

“We really appreciate Hancock County Savings Bank stepping up to be our major sponsor,” said Coty Shingle, parks executive director. “This event is, obviously, all about the community, so when businesses join forces with the Park Board it allows us to provide the best services and events possible for the city of Weirton and show the entire community how much we care about them.”

Hancock County Savings Bank President Cathy Ferrari noted the importance of such community events for area residents.

“This is a great program because it’s about family,” Ferrari said.

This year’s Easter Egg Hunt will include 10,000 eggs, filled with candy and chances for prizes, as well as a visit from the Easter Bunny and a bounce house. It is open to children from toddlers to 10 years of age, with participants separated into a series of age-based divisions. All participants will receive a free hot dog.

Additional support for the event is being provided by the Weirton Elks, Weirton Rental, Novelty Plus and the Follansbee Sheetz.

Parks Programs Director Chris Krishak said it is such support which makes their events possible.

Krishak said if anyone would like to donate individually wrapped candy for the event, it will be accepted until Friday.

Children and parents are asked to meet in the gymnasium of the Millsop Community Center prior to the egg hunt.

In the event of inclement weather, the egg hunt will be held inside the community center.

For information, or to make a donation, contact Krishak at (304) 797-5721.
