Theo Yianni’s donates to Weirton K-9

Shawn Mihellis and Yianni Bourbakis, co-owners of Theo Yianni’s Authentic Greek Restaurant on Pennsylvania Ave., donated $600 for the purchase of a new bullet proof vest for the K-9 officers of the Weirton Police Department. “We thought this was a great way to give back to the community and to the police force. We wanted to show them the support they deserve because they’re always there to support us,” Bourbakis said. Presenting and accepting the check Wednesday were, from left, Ward 7 Councilman Terry Weigel; Bourbakis; Weirton Police Chief Rob Alexander; Mayor George J. Kondik; and Mihellis. “It’s been wonderful to see so many people stepping up to help out our city’s police department and our K-9 officers. I’ve always had faith in the people of Weirton, and the business community has come through again,” commented Weigel. The Weirton Moose Lodge 688 will host a Project Bulletproof K9 Fundraiser on Feb. 28 to benefit the WPD’s K-9 Unit. The event is open to the public and will feature a spaghetti dinner from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by auctions and drawings beginning at 6:30 p.m. For information or to make a donation, call (304) 906-8740 or (304) 748-4707.
