Steubenville Police

Time to go: A resident in the 900 block of McKinley Avenue reported hearing a shot fired, Thursday. Police had been at the location earlier to deal with a dispute involving a disabled vehicle that was parked in a location a neighbor objected to. The car’s owner said he’d planned to junk it at a later date and accused the neighbor who’d complained of harassing him. Police said the vehicle was expired as well as disabled, but since it wasn’t blocking the lot they couldn’t tow it. The owner was given 48 hours to move it. Less than half an hour later the shot fired call came in, and the person who called it in said the alleged shooter was the owner of the disabled vehicle. The owner of the disabled vehicle said they’d been “yelling back and forth all day” but denied firing a gun, claiming all he’d done was light a firework to “celebrate his birthday.” His neighbors said they “were certain it was a shot being fired and not a firework,” but they did not actually see him with a gun. No one would submit a written statement.

Stay away: A Maryland Avenue resident said her ex showed up at her residence causing problem. Thursday. She said they began arguing about child support and eventually another female began arguing in the street and before long “began physically fighting one another.” She said her ex punched her several times in the head, then left before officers arrived. While speaking with police “individuals began arguing again outside” so police cleared the area and made sure everyone was gone. She wants to pursue charges against the ex.

Dog attacked: A Greenwich Avenue resident said she was unloading groceries when the neighbor’s dog crossed the street and attacked her barking dog, which was on her porch, Thursday. She said she was unable to get to her dog in time and the neighbor’s dog pulled hers through the railing by its head and then shook it violently, still holding it by the head. Neighbors helped her separate the dogs. She was getting ready to take her dog to the veterinarian hospital, but police said they were able to see some blood on its head and the dog was not walking, but its eyes were open and it was breathing. Donald Irwin, 65, 4032 W. Argonne Ave., Steubenville, was cited for dog at large and warned if the other woman’s dog dies, “his animal … would then be deemed dangerous.”

Booked: A city resident knocking on a door in the 200 block of North Lake Erie Street ended up in police custody after police identified him as a man wanted in Washington County, Pa. Lester Cole, 58, 732 N. Sixth St., Steubenville, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail as a fugitive from justice.

Served: Lydia Ramos, 48, 815 N. Sixth St., Apt. 511, Steubenville, violation of a protection order, Thursday.
