Charged: Tasha J. Scott, 40, 56 Pontiac Road, Wellsburg, aggravated driving under the influence and driving under the influence with a minor, Tuesday.
Mingo Junction Police
Double domestic: Rome Edgar, 30, of 227 W. Main St., Barnesville and Jenna Ross, 28, of 124 Madison Ave., were charged with domestic violence after an incident on Jan. 3. Police detained both parties on charges of domestic violence due to both individuals having apparent injuries and admitting to being involved in a physical altercation.
Breaking up: Emari Berry, 28, 246 Lincoln Ave., domestic violence, Dec. 29. A woman claimed she was assaulted by Berry, her live-in boyfriend and father of her children, at their residence Dec. 27. She said they started arguing after she was trying to find her benefits card and Berry said he threw it out the window. She got mad and pushed Berry’s television onto the floor, the woman said, at which point Berry allegedly grabbed her and slammed her onto the floor in front of their children. Once Berry let her go, the woman said, he grabbed a knife and said he was ready to fight any of her family members whom she called. Berry claimed the argument started because he does not want to be with the woman anymore, as she does not cook or clean. He said the woman became argumentative, and he told her to back up multiple times. Berry said he began packing his clothes, at which point the woman started touching him. He allegedly grabbed her, and she started punching him. Berry said she fell to the ground while he was holding her to stop the alleged assault, and he denied slamming her. Police observed a knot on the right side of Berry’s forehead.

Steubenville Police
Blew it: A Texas man ended up in custody after he allegedly screamed obscenities and refused to leave a city business, then caused more problems on a city bus, Thursday. Police said Shad Green, 54, Haslet, Texas, was charged with disorderly while intoxicated and put on an eight-hour intoxication hold. Employees of the Hollywood Plaza business told police they’d asked Green to leave several times, but he refused before eventually boarding the bus. Police said he smelled like alcohol, was unsteady and slurring his words and claimed when they asked if he’d been drinking, he told them “Yeah, all day.” The bus driver said he wasn’t causing any problems at that point and he was advised to keep it that way, but a few minutes later they responded to Rosary Circle after the driver reported he was “causing a disturbance on the bus.”
Sticks and stones: A city resident said she ran into a man who hadn’t been served with a protection order she took out against him, Tuesday. She said when she bumped into him on Fourth Street “he expressed his displeasure with her … (and) called her names.”
Grudge match: A woman told police she was walking through a parking lot in the 600 block on North Seventh Street when a female known to her came up behind her and slapped her in the face, Thursday. She said the assault stems from an incident several years ago involving her cousin, who her assailant is now dating.
Walking out: A man wearing a Raiders hoodie stole a pair of Nike golf gloves from a city business, Thursday. The store manager said the man walked up to a checkout clerk and demanded he be allowed to exchange the gloves but didn’t have a receipt. When the clerk refused to make the exchange, he said he’d do it himself and went back to the golf glove display, selected one and left the store.
Scam alert: A city resident said she received several calls from a man who said his name was “Chris” warning her bank account was missing $1,900 “and the only way that she could get (it) back was to buy two gift cards with $499 on them,” Thursday. She said she purchased the gift cards but went to the bank before giving him the information.
Home alone: City firefighters requested assistance with a possibly intoxicated male at a downtown club, Thursday. They said callers said he had other health issues and “were concerned he would be unable to care for himself given his current state of intoxication.” Police said he was unable to stand under his own power and was unable to speak clearly, without pausing or slurring his words. They said he lived alone “and would have nobody to help should he fall and injure himself,” so he was taken to the hospital so he could be medically cleared.
Arrested, cited: Two people ended up in custody on alleged drug violations after police reported seeing the driver of the car, they were in drifting across road markings and discovered the registration of the car they were in had expired more than six months ago, Thursday. Police said they charged Shawn C. Spencer, 46, 139 Irene Drive, Follansbee, with possession of cocaine and Trae L. Swearengen, 26, 643 Adams St., Steubenville, with possession of cocaine and conveyance of cocaine into a detention facility, along with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers inventorying the vehicle before it was towed said they saw “numerous clear sandwich bags and a red item” in a backpack in the back seat, and when they opened it found “a red scale, a cut cup with white residue and numerous used and unused plastic baggies.” They allege Spencer had a bag filled with a white powder in his lower jacket pocket believed to be cocaine, and claim at the jail they spotted Swearengen “shake his leg, then reach down to his boot … and observed (him) attempting to squish a clear baggie containing a large amount of white powder, then (try) to slide it under a jail cell door.” The driver, Leslie A. Spencer, 46, also of 139 Irene Drive, was cited for expired registration and issued a warning for the marked lanes violation.
Forced entry: An Oxford Boulevard landlord said someone broke into one of his properties, Tuesday. He said when he checked the residence that morning, he found the front door open, a back window panel missing and his furnace had been turned off, but nothing else was missing. Police said there were at least two sets of footprints in the snow in the backyard.
Kid stuff: A caller said her brother “punched her in the face” in a moving vehicle, Wednesday. Police located her, her mother and juvenile brother in a car on Mall Drive. Mom said the kids got in an argument “resulting in her son hitting his sister in the face.” The caller said they’d been fighting over a phone and when she tried to take it from him, he hit her with it. The boy said his sister grabbed his arm, so it was self-defense, but police told him it appeared he was in the wrong and warned him if it happens again, he’ll be arrested.
Found: A magazine loaded with 9 mm ammunition was found on the ground in a parking lot on the west side of the Best Western, Wednesday.
Served: Nicole E. Demitras, 34, 3113 Central Ave., Steubenville, fugitive from justice, Thursday. Police said Demitras was wanted in Hancock County.
Owes: A downtown resident decided to try and collect on a debt, Thursday. Police said she said a male she knows only as “B.J.” owes her $2,000 from an agreement they made 12 years ago in Weirton. Police told her the report would be on file.
Missing: A Sherman Avenue resident said he requested $60 in cash back at the Wal-Mart self-checkout and forgot to pick it up, Thursday. He said when he went back to get it his money was already gone. Police obtained a copy of the surveillance footage.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to the owner/occupants of properties at 804 South Street, bags of garbage in the side yard and in vacant lot next to it; 766 Lincoln Ave., household garbage scattered in front of property;114 Harding Ave., couch on porch, kitchen appliances and other litter in rear; 329 Slack St., junk and litter piled in rear; and 327 Slack St., junk and litter piled in rear;
