Police reports

Jefferson County sheriff

Bad driving: A Stratton resident told deputies someone crashed a vehicle into her house and fled the scene, Sunday. The woman said she and a family member were upstairs when they heard a loud boom and felt the house shake. When they came downstairs to investigate, they spotted several photos that had fallen off the wall and saw tire tracks leading from the roadway to their front porch. Deputies said the porch foundation was cracked as were walls and ceilings in the residence. Vehicle debris was recovered, and deputies believe they’ve matched it to an offender.

Dogs removed: The Humane Society and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department removed three dogs from a vacant home on county Road 10, Adena, Sunday.

Missing: A Benson Lane resident told deputies someone stole his mailbox overnight Sunday. He said the post was splintered and the mailbox removed.

Arrested: Richard Beal, 54, 2487 Chestnut St., Steubenville, was taken into custody Sunday on a charge of possession of drugs (cocaine). He also was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence and no license plate light.

Steubenville police

In custody: Joshua P. Vella, 33, 330 South Broadway St., Barnesville, was taken into custody Saturday for making false reports. Police allege Vella had “continuously called 911 throughout the day when not in need of assistance,” and after being instructed not to call city dispatch any more, he contacted a sheriff’s dispatcher and reportedly threatened to rob Taco Bell.

Intoxicated: An officer on patrol said a woman sitting on porch along Opal Boulevard Saturday asked for a ride to another location, then just told him to take her to jail for public intoxication. He said the woman appeared highly intoxicated, slurring her words and making incoherent statements, but told them she’d walked there from her residence after having a couple of beers. She was wearing slippers and said her feet were hurting, so she was taken to Trinity for evaluation.

Pushy: A caller reported someone trying to break into her apartment, Saturday. Police located a man who told them he’d had an argument with the woman, with whom he shares a child, and she sent him a video of her throwing some of his things out a window. He went to the apartment to retrieve his possessions and was able to use his key to unlock the door but a chain was engaged, so he pushed through it, got his things and left.

Removed: A vehicle parked over a water line that broke on Cleveland Avenue had to be towed, police said. City crews told police they’d been at the scene for an hour trying to make contact with the owner of the vehicle without success. Police said to repair the break, crews needed to dig directly under the vehicle.
