Library announces activities

STEUBENVILLE — The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will offer a new StoryWalk at Beatty Park beginning Dec. 1 and continuing through Jan. 9. Families can walk the trail, experience the beauty of the outdoors this winter and read, page by page, the story “Cold,” by Tim McCanna. Once the book has been completed, children can visit the Main Library and collect a prize.

Additional activities scheduled for the week of Nov. 30-Dec. 6 include:

Stop in the library anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Dec. 5-6 to make a holiday ornament you can paint at home. All ages are welcome to participate. Ornaments are available, while supplies last.

Adults: Step back into the 1880s from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 4. Local artists Faire May will perform traditional and modern holiday music on period instruments in a festive, candlelit setting. Register to attend.

The Books on Tap Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Hightower Brewing Co. in Rayland. The club will discuss “Gods of Jade and Sorrow,” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Call to borrow a book and reserve a seat.

The Deep Dive Book Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 and Dec. 16 to discuss “Psalm for the Wild,” by Becky Chambers. Call to join the discussion.

Teens: Pick up a grab-and-go bag containing a clear ornament to fill with your favorite miniature YA book covers on Dec. 1. The bags will be available to teens between the ages of 12 and 18, while supplies last.

Play and Learn the Alphabet will be offered to children ages 2-4 at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 4. Parents can bring their child to play with toys which promote alphabet knowledge.

Use a paper tube to create a Christmas tree painting at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 4. Register to attend.

Adults: The Thriller Book Club will meet at 10 a.m. on Dec. 2 to discuss “Flying Angels,” by Danielle Steel. Call to join the group.

Adults: Author Robin Yocum will visit the library to discuss his new book “The Last Hitman,” at 6 p.m. Dec. 3. The book is set in Steubenville and follows street-tough Angelo, as he makes his way up the ranks of the Fortunato family. The story documents Angelo’s climb, while following him through the summer of 2019. The FBI is at his door and he must decide on the direction he will go to determine the rest of his life. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Children: Go on a scavenger hunt in the library on Dec. 1. Complete the hunt to be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a stack of books. The winner will be drawn on Dec. 22.

Listen to stories and sing songs during Babytime, set to be held at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 4. Babygarten is for parents and their children, ages birth to 2. Stop by the library to participate.

Share rhymes, books and an activity during Tot Time. Stop by the library at 4 p.m. on Mondays, including Dec. 1 and Dec. 8. The activity is held at 10 a.m. Tuesdays, including Dec. 2 and Dec. 9.

Sign in at the children’s desk prior to class. The class will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays, including Dec. 3 and Dec. 10. If the Tuesday or Wednesday class is full, an additional class will be added, beginning at 11 a.m.

Teens: Get into the holiday spirit and paint a small nutcracker from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 1. Register to participate.

Children: Listen to stories, sing songs and do an art activity together during Tot Time, set to take place at 4 p.m. on Dec. 3 and Dec. 17. Parents can bring their children, ages 2-4, to the Toronto Library to participate. Register to attend.
