STEUBENVILLE — The Sycamore Youth Center wrapped up its vibrant Jazz and Contemporary Dance Camp, led by volunteer instructor Diana Tygett. The weeklong camp brought together 20 young dancers between the ages of 8 and 14 for a time of growth, creativity and performance.

Throughout the week, participants learned a range of jazz and contemporary techniques, while developing confidence and discipline through movement. The camp concluded with a recital at the center, where families and friends gathered to watch the students showcase the skills they learned.

“It was such a joy to work with these young dancers,” Tygett, who volunteered her time to lead the camp, stated. “They were eager to learn, full of energy and truly gave their best throughout the week.”

Participating dancers included Lucy Tygett, Brigid Matenaer, Monica Matenaer, Filomina Hawrot, Marie Wood, Evelyn Morris, Naomi Hatcher, Aurora Groman, Faye Lash, Katherine Matenaer, Esperanza Hawrot, Cana Frank, Christine Hatcher, Charlotte Tygett, Piper Manuel, Miriam Zaleski and Eleanor Matenaer.

Bobbyjon Bauman, executive director of Sycamore, praised the impact of the camp and the dedication of its instructor. “We are so grateful for volunteers like Diana Tygett, who use their gifts to invest in the next generation,” he said. “This camp gave young people a space to express themselves, build confidence and experience the joy of dance in a safe and supportive environment.”

The Sycamore Youth Center continues to offer a variety of free summer camps and enrichment programs for youth throughout the Ohio Valley, providing a positive space for personal and creative development.
