STEUBENVILLE — The Sycamore Youth Center is preparing to host its annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Camp, a week-long event designed to equip local youth with spiritual insight, leadership skills and athletic training.
The camp will begin on Monday and run through Friday, with those interested attending from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the Sycamore Youth Center, located at 301 N. Fourth St. in Steubenville. The camp is open to boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 18, according to Bobbyjon Bauman, executive director of the Sycamore center.
The FCA Camp combines discipleship training, Bible study, team-building, engaging activities and sports skills instruction, into a high-energy, faith-centered experience. Each day, campers will be challenged to grow in their relationship with God, while developing practical leadership and teamwork abilities, Bauman said.
A key feature of the camp is the student testimony segment. This is the time when local high school students share their personal stories of faith, perseverance and how sports and spiritual life intersect.
In addition to youth speakers, there will be two guest speakers who will headline the week.
Rebekah Cohen Morris, the executive director of the Aim Women’s Center, will serve as one of the keynote speakers at the camp. She is a former college basketball coach and will talk to the young athletes about leadership, identity and purpose.
Another keynote speaker will be Travis Zimmerman, a current collegiate basketball player at Franciscan University of Steubenville. Zimmerman will bring his firsthand experience as a student-athlete navigating faith and competition.
“We are thrilled to be offering this camp again and look forward to the incredible ways God will work in the lives of these young people,” Bauman stated. “It’s more than just a sports camp — it’s about building strong, resilient leaders for tomorrow.”
The camp culminates with a special field trip on Friday. All youth participants who attend throughout the week will receive a free ticket, along with transportation, to see a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game in Pittsburgh.
Bauman noted that by offering this fun reward, it will be a memorable bonding experience that will close out the camp. To register for the camp or to learn more, visit the center’s website at sycamorecenter.com.
