Toronto Seniors discuss trips

TORONTO — The Toronto Senior Citizens group met for its monthly meeting May 15 at the Karaffa Recreation Center. Group Chaplain Arlene Obertance-Rice provided the blessing that preceeded a dinner catered by Connie’s Corner. The meal consisted of meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, green beans, coleslaw and rolls. A Texas sheet cake was served for dessert. Following dinner, Obertance-Rice, serving as club chaplain, gave a Mother’s Day reading entitled “My Mother,” by Ann Taylor. She then read a Memorial Day reading entitled “The Fallen,” by Randall W. West.

Obertance-Rice led members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by club President John Livingstone opening the business meeting.

The secretary’s report was given by Joyce Zimmerman.

Patty Smith provided the treasurer’s report.

The social secretary’s report was given by Peggy Ziarko, who led the group in singing happy birthday to members who are celebrating a birthday in May.

Livingstone gave the old and new business reports to those in attendance.

Members highlighted a bus trip to Gervasi Vineyards in Hartville on June 26. Guests will visit the marketplace and flea market. Seats are still available for purchase, with members to pay $65 and non-members to pay $75. Lunch will be included in the cost.

A trip is planned to attend a Neil Diamond tribute show at the Ohio Star Theater Aug. 22. A buffet lunch will be part of the day’s trip. There is currently a wait-list to attend. To be added to the list, contact Krause or Smith.

The club welcomed a seventh-grade student who volunteered to help clean-up after the meeting.

The business meeting was adjourned and winners of contests and games were announced.

The 50/50 drawing was won by Mary Scott in the amount of $128.

The basket drawing was won by JoAnn Llewellyn.

Bingo winners were Krause, Betty Sadowski, Faye Jones and Vicky Ziegler.

There were 10 door prize winners for the evening. Winners included: Mary Alice Meyer, Mary Kay Petras, Glenda Matterson, Pat Richardson, Joyce Dobbs, Andy Richards, Marilyn Izzi, Bobbi Koltz, Janet Moore and Norine Peterson.

The next club meeting will take place at 4 p.m. June 19.
