Sunrise Seniors to hold mother’s/father’s banquet

TORONTO — The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met April 25 at the Karaffa Recreation Center.

President Barbara Pritts welcomed members and guest Darla Pletcher.

Mary Lou Emery gave the blessing prior to the meal which featured ham and several side dishes, supplied by the club members.

The kitchen committee comprised of Jerry Cornish, Gloria Boley, Lucy Timko and Carolyn Rogers, were thanked for setting up the meal and table decorations and for cleaning up afterward.

Following dinner, members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, Secretary Karen Martin read the minutes from the April 11 meeting and the roll call of officers was conducted.

Pritts gave the financial report and informed those in attendance of the flag fund balance.

Social Secretary Mary Ann Landerfield announced the names of those celebrating a birthday in April and reminded the group of the Prime-Time Senior Expo, scheduled to take place May 21.

Landerfield reminded the group that an anniversary party will take place at the First West Senior Center May 15.

The expo and anniversary party require advance registration, she noted.

Two individuals were remembered under the health report.

Betty Mossor informed members of the death of former member Beth Clark. Clark had served as the club’s vice president for a number of years, she stated.

Pritts reminded members of the group’s next meeting, which will feature the annual mother and father banquet in recognition of Mother’s Day/Father’s Day. The event will be a banquet for those who are pre-registered.

Members will gather at 5 p.m. inside the commons area of the recreation center. The evening’s meal will be catered by Connie’s Corner.

Anyone who has signed up to attend but does not, will still be charged for their meal, Pritts commented.

Members were informed a few seats are still available for the June 29 trip to the Lincoln School of Performing Arts in Midland, Pa., to see “Sister Act.”

Dinner will be enjoyed at the Golden Corral in Robinson Township during the trip and is included in the price. The cost is $50 for members and $60 for non-members.

Officials said that although most of the players did not do so well on the quiz, Nancy Bodrog and Jackie Collins tied for having the most correct answers and were presented with gift cards to a local grocery store as their prize.

Rogers and Ethel Stevens were the winners of the 50/50 drawing.

Following announcements, brag time and the joke of the evening, the meeting was adjourned.

Members played rounds of bingo following adjournment, with Laura Sheets calling the numbers.

Winners for the evening included Dave DeVore, Mossor, Bodrog, Brenda Fetty, Paul Sherwood, Bea Lytle, Mary Lou Deku, Lynn Miller, Pritts and Hank Sheets.
