Summer camp coming to Weirton
WEIRTON — The Hancock/Brooke Parish of the United Methodist Church will offer a summer camp to area students in Weirton. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 are invited to join the camp from June 23-26 at Christ United Methodist Church in Weirton.
The week will include fun activities centered on learning about God and creation. There is no cost to attend the event. For information, call the Rev. Sarah Wilmoth at (304) 612-8193.
Memorial Day in Wayne Township
BLOOMINGDALE — The Wayne Township Community Center will hold a Memorial Day breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the center, located at 3281 county Road 39 in Bloomingdale. Pancakes and sausage, sausage gravy and biscuits or scrambled eggs and toast will be offered, along with various drinks.
A parade will begin at 10 a.m. featuring the Indian Creek Band. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Unionport Christian Church. The public is welcome to attend.
Chicken blasts set to begin
WEIRTON — The Serbian Picnic Grounds will be the site for this year’s chicken blasts, scheduled to begin on Wednesday. The blasts will continue each Wednesday through Aug. 27, according to organizers.
Chickens will be $10 each and can be ordered on Wednesdays between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. by calling (304) 748- 9866. Chickens must be picked up by 6 p.m. at 80 Serbian Way in Weirton.
SHS Class of ’75 planning reunion
STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville High School Class of 1975 is planning for its upcoming 50th reunion, scheduled to take place Sept. 6 at Froehlich’s Classic Corner, located at 501 Washington St.
The reunion committee is searching for all graduating classmates, who are being asked to send their contact information — including their e-mail address, phone number and home address — to bigredreunion1975@gmail.com. Those who have knowledge of additional classmates are being asked to pass along that information to the same e-mail listed.
Committee members will be e-mailing the reunion invitation, icebreaker information and dinner plans to those responding.
Madonna Class of ’75 to reunite
WEIRTON — The Weirton Madonna Class of 1975 will hold its class reunion on Aug. 1. An icebreaker will take place at 6 p.m. at the high school, followed by a get-together at Undo’s Restaurant Aug. 2.
A Mass will be held at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, followed by dinner at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern in Steubenville. For information, contact Terry Magnone Cline at (304) 374-3605.
STEM academy fundraiser set
STEUBENVILLE — The McKinley Marvels STEM Club is organizing its second-annual fundraiser entitled Superhero Fun Walk/Food Festival.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at McKinley STEM Academy in Steubenville.
Vendors are being sought for the event, according to organizers, who noted vendors are being asked to donate either a portion of their sales to the club or to make a donation to the event. Vendors must supply their own tents, tables and electricity, if needed, officials said. The fundraiser will take place rain or shine, which in the event of rain, vendors can set up inside the school’s gymnasium or hallways. Registration forms are due by June 1. A variety of activities and entertainment will be available for families throughout the day.
The money raised from the event will be used toward the club attending a monthly after-school meeting where students will participate in fun-themed STEM challenges. Members will have the opportunity to travel to Universal Studios and SeaWorld in Orlando to take part in STEM app series.
