Church to hold silent disco
WINTERSVILLE — Crossroads Christian Church will hold its second-ammual Silent Disco Night for individuals who possess a disability, along with their families from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 30.
The sensory-friendly dance will take place at the church, located at 110 Springdale Ave. in Wintersville. The event will feature free food and headphones for the evening.
According to Kristina Gabel, children’s ministry director at the church, the event was designed to be disability-inclusive and open to all ages.
“It’s an all-abilities event where individuals can come and there will be three stations available where they can tune and adjust the volume of their headphones,” Gabel explained. “It’s a silent dance.”
Gabel stated the inaugural event drew approximately 50 people last year. She is hoping for a good turnout this year as well.
“We really wanted to launch more events at church for individuals with disabilities and gear it toward all abilities,” Gabel added.
The silent disco is open, however, registration is preferred in order to guarantee headphones will be available.
The deadline to register is today.
Anyone interested in attending can visit the Crossroads Christian Church Facebook page to register.

Red Cross to hold Media Day drive
WINTERSVILLE — The American Red Cross will hold its annual Jefferson County Media Day Blood Drive from noon to 5:30 p.m. June 18 at St. Florian Hall, located at 286 Luray Drive in Wintersville.
According to officials, the organization is hoping to collect at least 34 units of blood during the drive.
Walk-ins will be welcome throughout the afternoon; however, making an appointment is helpful to everyone involved, organizers explained.
To make an appointment, call (800) 733-2767 or go online to redcrossblood.org and enter JeffMedia to schedule an appointment.
Those who are eligible to donate types O, B negative or A negative blood, should consider making a Power Red donation, as “red blood cells are the most commonly transfused blood component,” officials stated.
Officials announced how one donation can save up to three lives. This statistic is important, they noted, because every two seconds in the United States, someone is in need of blood.
Those who donate between June 1-30, will receive a $15 gift card e-mailed to them, as well as a chance to be entered to win a $7,000 prize.
