WEIRTON — Cloak and Dagger on the Air continues its eighth season at 4 p.m. Saturday, with Agatha Christie’s “The Secret Adversary: A Tommy and Tuppence Mystery.” Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., with Troubadour R.J. Gaudio performing a set of classic pop, folk and rock favorites. Light refreshments will be available.
Performed in the style of live radio drama, Cloak and Dagger on the Air will be livestreamed through the Ohio Valley Cloak and Dagger Co. Facebook page.
Pete Fernbaugh, artistic director and head writer, has adapted the first novel by Agatha Christie to feature Tommy Beresford and Tuppence Cowley. Actors Dave Zanieski and Micah Underwood star in the leading roles.
The plot centers on secret documents exchanged on the RMS Lusitania as it sank after being torpedoed in 1915. Jane Finn, the mysterious woman who received those documents, disappeared soon after being rescued from the shipwreck. Hovering in the shadows is the mysterious Mr. Brown, person and entity who is always one step ahead of his pursuers as they race against the clock to find Jane and retrieve the documents, which threaten a second global conflict if the contents are revealed.
“I’ve been reading Agatha Christie all my life,” Fernbaugh said. “She, like Conan Doyle, has never gone out of fashion. This story fell into the public domain, and I knew it was perfect for our show and troupe. Many productions have been done of Hercule Poirot, but too few productions have been done featuring Tommy and Tuppence. I know audiences are going to find Dave and Micah charming in these roles, and I’m pretty sure they’ll discover the story itself will keep them guessing until the last second.”
Supporting Zanieski and Underwood are Cloak and Dagger on the Air’s acting troupe, the Wayward Saints, featuring Chris Carter, Bethany Fernbaugh, Pete Fernbaugh, David Gaudio, Robert J. Gaudio, Noah Hilton, Nancy Longo, Karissa Martin, Clare McDonald, Malachi McClendon and Maura Danielle Reiff-Parissi. Sound effects for the production will be performed by the sound effects team, the Holy Foley Molies.
The Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is located at 243 Three Springs Drive, Suite 17, in Weirton. “We encourage folks to set aside some extra time to check out the local businesses around us,” Fernbaugh said. The monthly theatrical series celebrates audio drama from all eras, particularly the fabled Golden Age of Radio.
