MOUNT PLEASANT — The Historical Society of Mount Pleasant will present a Spring Tea from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. May 3 at the Samuel Gill House, located at 486 Union St. in Mount Pleasant.
Tickets will be $20 per person. Limited seating will be available, so those who are planning to attend should reply soon with their reservation by calling (937) 733-7183. When calling, let the society know if you would like to be seated with a group, officials commented.
According to Tom Haynes, president of the historical society, there is a private room for a group of 10 guests, a private room for a group of eight guests and the Gill House Tearoom, which offers various tables of three, four or six people.
“Our guests are encouraged to wear their tea party hats, and we’ll have a few of our members donning vintage hats that have been passed down in our families through the years,” Haynes stated. “Come and sit for a while and appreciate the beauty of the 1846 Samuel Gill House, owned by the Friends Church. Join your friends for a lovely afternoon tasting delicious teas, canapés and sweets.”
Haynes noted ample parking is located at the rear of the house, with additional parking available next door at the church.
The fundraiser is held every year to assist in the maintenance and repair of Mount Pleasant’s historical buildings, Haynes stated. The next large fundraiser to take place will be the annual Historic Tour, held the first weekend in August.
Friends to Freedom will commemorate the 160th anniversary of the ending of the Civil War and slavery in America.
Those wishing to join the Historical Society of Mount Pleasant can call the reservation line. The group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.
