Fidelis Gamma to meet Thursday

WEIRTON — Members of the Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators met at Weirton’s Eat ‘n Park April 3. President Susan Cullinan presided. The chapter had 10 members in attendance.

Cullinan welcomed members, after which Chaplain Elaine McClung led in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and read a piece entitled “Real Life.”

Altruistic Chairman Margo Polk passed around a form for members to record their volunteer hours, monetary donations and non-monetary donations.

Scholarship Chairman Liz Pugh announced a meeting was to be held April 16 for the purpose of finalizing the information regarding the Oak Glen or Weir High school presentation from the Fidelis Gamma Chapter.

Cullinan encouraged members to attend the Alpha Delta Kappa Spring Celebration, to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at South Middle School, located at 500 E. Parkway Drive in Morgantown.

The president discussed the Three World Understanding projects, which were voted on and shared with members.

Nancy Conley announced plans are underway for the Tri-Chapter Christmas Party, which will be hosted by Fidelis Gamma at noon on Dec. 6. Conley suggested Nio’s Italian Restaurant at 241 Three Springs Drive in Weirton, as the site for the event. The motion was passed.

Membership Chairman Ruth Fuller confirmed that all three ladies who were invited to join the chapter are officially in the Alpha Delta Kappa system. A special welcome was given. Fuller presented the name Jeanne Barrett to invite as a guest for the Thursdaymeeting.

McClung, Ruth Fuller and Allison presented a memorial for Catherine “Kay” Kuzma, who died Jan. 27 at Cocoa Beach, Fla. Kuzma was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa for many years, officers said. The ceremony table included a photo of Kuzma, along with her husband, Henry “Hank” Kuzma, a lit candle in a violet flower wreath and the bulletin from the ceremony.

“Our members will miss a lovely, devoted friend,” the women stated.

Cullinan provided members’ contact information to place in their binders.

Hostesses for the meeting were Conley and Bonnie Queses.

Hostesses for the May meeting, scheduled for Thursday, will be Shirley Washam, Polk and Nancy Holdsworth. The meeting was adjourned with the singing of “The Lamp of Alpha Delta Kappa.”
