Sheriff’s breakfast

More than 30 local veterans, including members of the Jefferson County Veterans Association, joined officials from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Feb. 27 for the sheriff’s bi-monthly breakfast for veterans. Those taking part in the event included, from left, JCVA Adjutant Barry Bardone, JCSD Capt. Chris Vinci, JCVA Commander John Kaffana, JCVA members Tom Hutkay, Frank Santa and Fred Tarr and Sheriff Fred Abdalla Jr. Abdalla informed those in attendance about recent drug seizures and arrests which have taken place throughout the county. He then introduced his staff, along with other law enforcement departments, that took part in the investigations. During the event, Brian Palmer of Laborers Local 809 of Steubenville, advised guests of the union’s first upcoming golf tournament, scheduled to be held on May 3. Interested parties can contact Palmer at (740) 461-3247 for information. Vinci donated a “Thank You Veterans” flag that will be flown above the JCVA’s Memorial Wall in Friendship Park in Smithfield. The next breakfast will be held in late April, with the date to be announced, officials noted.
