Trinity event set for Friday

WINTERSVILLE — Trinity Health System will hold its Crimson Connections From the Heart event at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Florian Event Center in Wintersville. Tickets are $35 per person, with sponsorships available. Sponsorships can be contributed by calling Jess Kelley at (740) 317-1613.

Democratic women to hold fundraiser

WEIRTON — The Hancock County Executive Committee and the Hancock County Democratic Women will host a Fins and Feathers fundraiser from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the T. Kosciusko Hall, located at 1801 Pennsylvania Ave. in Weirton.

A buffet menu will consist of shrimp burgers, clam rolls, Italian cod, chicken strips, mac and cheese and pierogies with butter and onions. Soft drinks will be served. The cost will be $15 per person. Those 5 and under will cost $5. Tickets are available from any member of the executive committee or the Democratic women or call (724) 544-6063. Civil War roundtable meets Wednesday

WHEELING — The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable will feature guest lecturer Jenne Cox during their meeting on Wednesday. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Ohio County Public Library, located 52 16th St. in Wheeling.

Cox will deliver an overview of the state of medicine at the beginning of the Civil War and note the important changes that quickly developed out of necessity for immediate and long-term care of the large number of battlefield wounded. She will focus on battlefield medicine, the development of nursing, transportation of the wounded and medical care of the United States Colored Troops.

Cox is a member of the Mahoning Valley and the Western Pennsylvania roundatables. She is a nurse practitioner in Aliquippa, and a former flight attendant for U.S. Airways. She holds a bachelor’s degree from West Liberty and a master’s degree from Wheeling College. The lecture is open to the public and free of charge. Family memberships to the roundtable are $20 per year. The roundtable discussion for the April 23 meeting will feature a discussion regarding the horses at the battle of Gettysburg.

The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable will be recognizing an Ohio Valley resident and business that has proven to be an example for supporting the appreciation of Civil War history, officials noted.

Evening story hour offered

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will present an evening story hour led by Kim Harless at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Centered around the story “Rainbow Rob,” the program will include snacks, a craft and other activities.

Library to show book-based film

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will host a screening of the R-rated film “Into the Wild,” at 2 p.m. March 27, followed by a discussion of the film and the book on which it is based, at 5 p.m.

Titled the same as the film, the book by Jon Krakauer is about his experiences as a college graduate wandering through nature in the early 1990s.

Recipe club to meet

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library’s adults-only Cook by the Book Recipe Club will meet at noon March 28. Every month, the club works with a theme. Those participating choose a recipe, make it and bring it into the library, along with a copy of the recipe.

Club members then share the finished product, swap recipes and engage in fellowship. This month’s theme is Easter recipes. Registration is not required. For information, call (304) 737-1551.

Antiques Show coming to Oglebay

WHEELING — The Oglebay Institute’s Antique’s Show and Sale will be held April 4-6 at Wilson Lodge in Oglebay. Among the oldest in the country, the show is the largest and longest-running in West Virginia and features about 50 dealers from 10 states. Quality merchandise and diverse inventory appeal to experienced collectors and novice buyers, officials stated. General show hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 5 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 6. General admission is $15.

The Antiques Show and Sale will hold a social event with fellow antiques enthusiasts during a preview event April 4, giving shoppers a first look at the merchandise. Guests can enjoy gourmet food, drinks, special patron perks and the opportunity to mingle with other collectors and dealers during the preview event. Awards dinner set at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE — The 56th-annual Baron Club Awards Dinner, featuring Cleveland Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski, will be held at 6 p.m. April 10 at Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Finnegan Fieldhouse.

The reception and dinner will begin and 6 p.m. with the program starting at 7 p.m.
