Officers named to Newview Chapter

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Newview chapter of the WVU Community Educational Outreach Service met Feb. 5 at the Hancock County Senior Services Center.

During the meeting, the chapter installed its new officers for the year and distributed the 2025 handbooks to members. This year’s officers are Virginia Lawrence, president; Sue Isner, vice president; Vicky Cunningham, secretary; and Becky Wiegers, treasurer.

Committee chairs for the year will be Marilyn McClure, family committee; Doris Musselman, health motivator; Isner, continuing education; Wiegers, marketing and membership; and Dinah Carpenter, purposeful reading.

Officials announced the lessons to be taught in the coming months have been selected, as well as the presenters for each. In March, Betty Wagner will present “Emergency Preparedness 101: Plan, Prepare, Prevail.”

In April, McClure will discuss “Your Grandson’s Not in Jail — How to Avoid Being Scammed.”

Weigers will present “Echoes of the Past: Creative Writing for Legacy Building” during the May meeting. In June, Musselman will speak on the topic “A Guide to Conquering the Houseplant Jungle.”

July’s topic will be “Make It! Decorating For the Holidays with Handmade and Natural Décor,” presented by Carpenter.

Lawrence will present September’s topic, “Backstitch: A Brief History of Needles, Bobbins and Stitches.”

October’s lesson will focus on “Mail Pouch Barns,” presented by Isner; and November’s lesson looks at “Christmas Cookies: History and Sharing of Baked Goods For the Holidays,” presented by Cunningham.
