Fashion topic of Buckeye culture fair
CONNORVILLE — The 20th-annual International Culture Fair at Buckeye Local High School has been set for Feb. 20. This time, however, the focus will be on fashion around the world.
“Worldly Wardrobes — A Celebration of Traditional Fashion,” will be this year’s theme, being sponsored by the high school’s Foreign Language Club. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organizers explained 31 countries spanning the Americas to Australia will be represented and feature displays, as well as some “tasty treats depicting their respective regions.” Live music will be provided by Dave Milovac. Tickets will be sold for 25 cents to purchase food items.
Teacher Bonnie Soos, who co-advises the student organization with teacher Savana Granat, stated this event has attracted several hundred participants every year.
“We are having a fashion show to showcase the traditional outfits of each country,” Soos commented. “The food-tasting will take place between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the commons. The theatrical performances, fashion show and Parade of Nations will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.” The annual show has become an attraction throughout the years, Soos said.
“The students and community look forward to this event every year,” she stated. “Many have said that our culture fair is their favorite event to attend each year within our district. I am so proud of how this event has grown over the past 20 years, and I have been here from the beginning. I am always excited to see the creativity and enthusiasm of the club members as they proudly represent their chosen country. They each do an amazing job each year. I am also very thankful for the continuous support from the community.” Those attending will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite traditional dress, display and food. Proceeds from the event help to fund field trips and cultural events for the 100-member group, which has plans to return to Spain in March of 2026.
