Care bags for cancer patients

The Weirton All Saints Ladies Philoptochos Society delivered 20 cancer care bags to Weirton Medical Center’s oncology department on Feb. 4 in conjunction with World Cancer Day. Each bag included a Kroger gift card, blanket, hand towels and several healthy snacks and beverages for patients. The Philoptochos Society stated the cancer bags were intended to “brighten the spirits of the courageous cancer patients” and to “wish them all a speedy and healthy recovery.” The group does year-round fundraising to support various charitable organizations and causes within the community. Major fundraisers include holiday bake sales during Easter and Christmas. Its members want to thank the community for its continued support. Among those taking part in the distribution of care bags to WMC were, from left, Philoptochos member Pearl Tranto, WMC nurses Tina Rigby and Allyson Eckleberry and Philoptochos President Mary Kohelis.
