McDonald’s to help Martin family
STEUBENVILLE — One of the most popular fast-food chains in the world will be donating a portion of its proceeds to help support the family of Rosalie Martin, who at the age of 4 died as a result of being hit by a stray bullet on Jan. 22 in Calcutta.
According to her family, the gunshot was fired into a business at which Rosalie was visiting. The unrelated altercation which occurred outside of the business led to her death. Local McDonald’s restaurants will donate 15 percent of all sales between the hours of 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday to the Martin family, in order to assist with funeral costs and other related expenses. Donation jars will be available for cash donations as well, at each of the locations.
“It’s important that we come together as a community to help those in need in times of tragedy,” said McDonald’s Owner Trey Locke. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Martin family while they endure this unimaginable grief.”
Area McDonald’s participating in the fundraiser include: Steubenville, located at 2106 Sunset Blvd.; Wintersville, located at 140 Main St.; Toronto, located at 1850 Franklin St.; and Wellsville, 100 Lisbon St.
Franciscan president releases book
STEUBENVILLE — Franciscan University of Steubenville President the Rev. Dave Pivonka, has published a book entitled “Joyful Sons and Daughters: Embracing the Father’s Love,” through the Word Among Us Press.
“More than 150 times in the Bible, Jesus refers to God as father,” Pivonka stated. “Understanding God as our father is fundamental to our Christian faith, and yet many today struggle to embrace this truth. I hope this book helps people to experience healing and see themselves as sons and daughters of a father who loves perfectly and satisfies the deepest longings of their hearts.”
Pivonka draws from his personal experience and the experiences of Catholics to explore what it means to be a son or daughter of God. He addresses the role of earthly fathers, priestly spiritual fatherhood, the model of the holy family and how Jesus Christ reveals God the father. Each chapter concludes with questions to encourage readers to reflect on their own experiences with fatherhood and deepen their relationship with God. The book is based on “My Father’s Father,” Pivonka’s 2024 video series produced by 10th Hour Productions. In this six-part documentary series, Pivonka explores how people’s relationships with earthly fathers can impact their experience of their heavenly father.
