Take Your Child to Library Day

WELLSBURG — Take Your Child to the Library Day will take place Saturday. In observance of the day, several activities are being planned between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Brooke County Public Library, located at 945 Main St. in Wellsburg.

In the library’s River Room, there will be stations with crafts, coloring sheets, Legos and other activities centered around concepts of science, technology, engineering, the arts and math.

In the tutoring room, visitors will learn to use the library’s 3-D pen, while the film “Harold and the Purple Crayon” will be shown in the Elmer Vincent Meeting Room. Popcorn and bottled water will be provided for those attending the movie’s screening.

In the children’s room, there will be toys and games for children 6 and under, designed to promote hand-eye coordination and a basic understanding of STEAM concepts. Free bookmarks will be provided to the library’s young visitors that day.

There is no cost to attend and reservations are not required. Families are encouraged to arrive early in the event materials run out, according to officials.

Each month, the Wellsburg library and its sister library in Follansbee, offer activities for children.

An Explore and Learn Story Hour, based on “The Hare and the Tortoise,” with a craft and snack, is slated for 5 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the Wellsburg library.

Those interested in attending the free program can register by calling (304) 737-1551 or visiting brookecountylibsl.org/events.

The program is similar to the summer reading programs offered by the libraries. They will be open to people of all ages. Participants will log the library books they have read, receiving a ticket for each.

Throughout the year, there will be a prize drawing done quarterly, with four drawings total. Drawings have been set for March 1, June 1, Sept. 1 and Dec. 1, officials announced. For information or to join the program, visit bcplwv.readsquared.com or call (304) 737-1551 or (304) 527-0860.
