Much to do at science center
PITTSBURGH — The Carnegie Science Center is extending its blockbuster “The Science Behind Pixar” exhibition for an additional three weeks, following high demand from the public. Visitors will now be able to enjoy this two-story, 12,000-square-foot exhibition through Jan. 26. This is the last opportunity for guests to come face-to-face with their favorite animated characters and unleash their inner Pixar passion, with more than 50 interactive activities designed to flex their science, technology, engineering and math muscles, officials stated. Visitors will be able to upgrade their selfies through life-size recreations of Buzz Lightyear, Sulley and Mike, Dory, Edna Mode and WALL•E.
Peer into Jessie’s mind from “Toy Story 2,” while manipulating her facial expressions by moving sliders; discover how camera placement and angles created a bug’s-eye view in “A Bug’s Life,” and head to Ramone’s “House of Body Art” from “Cars,” virtually changing the appearance of a car hood. As part of the extension, visitors are encouraged to enjoy added adventures every weekend in January.
Caricatures and Characters will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Guests can picture themselves next to a famous animated character from their favorite animated movie. A caricature artist will bring their exaggerated portrait to life and sketch a re-imagined animated character by their side.
A locomotion weekend is planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 18-19. Included with general admission to the science center, guests will enjoy a building-wide extravaganza for all train enthusiasts. See a rail-yard full of guest train displays owned and operated by model train enthusiasts.
