Angel trees a success
STEUBENVILLE — Those affiliated with the Jefferson County Adult Protective Services held a special Christmas program in which angels containing the names of seniors 60 and older living in Jefferson County, were placed on Christmas trees at area locations.
Residents could select an angel from a tree and shop for that individual, who is either living in their own home or who does not have friends or family around during the holidays.
Trees were placed at the Prime Time Senior Center on Lovers Lane, at the Fort Steuben Mall, at Our Place, located at 235 N. Fourth St. and at the First Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Officials noted the success of the program, as 59 seniors in Jefferson County were brought some Christmas cheer.
Those with the organization thanked the community for all of its help, along with those from the Jefferson County Senior Coalition, who assisted in wrapping all of the gifts.
Nine sponsors donated money so each senior could have a stocking filled with goodies. In addition, they purchased gifts for those angels whose names were not selected.
Sponsors included Mosti Funeral Home, Wheeler Funeral Home, Houser’s Furniture, DeNoon Lumber, Valley Converting, Barium and Chemicals, Borden Office Equipment, Steubenville Electrical LMCC and First Choice America.

WEIRTON — The Weirton campus of West Virginia Northern Community College will be offering a free aerobics class beginning Jan. 14 and running through May 8.
The class will meet from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the student center, located in the back of the building.
This will be a low-impact class, with an emphasis on continuous movement, strength improvement and flexibility, according to instructor Carol Teaff.
All exercises are done while standing, Teaff noted, saying there will not be any chairs or floor work involved.
Everyone will be encouraged to work at his or her own ability level, she said.
Participants should wear loose or stretchy clothing to the class, along with athletic shoes. Bottled water is permitted.
