JVS helps at shelter

Students enrolled in the animal science management program at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School took a field trip to the Jefferson County Humane Society. Juniors and seniors assisted in tasks such as cleaning, grooming and interacting with animals. They observed the intake of animals being processed upon their arrival, including vaccinations, medical treatments, blood being drawn and heartworm testing. Students thanked the nonprofit’s staff, including Cassidy Cunningham, an alumna of the program, for an educational and insightful day of community service. The class will return to the shelter on a regular basis as part of the course’s curriculum. Junior Karly Koran was among those who helped care for the smallest residents at the shelter.
