International Senior Club celebrates Christmas
WEIRTON — Members of the International Senior Club celebrated the holidays with one another during the group’s monthly meeting, held Dec. 10 at Undo’s restaurant in Weirton.
Bobby DiFonzo led the club in prayer, then said the blessing prior to the meal. Gabriel Arlia led those in attendance in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Members joined in the singing of “God Bless America,” followed by the group sharing a Christmas dinner together. Various desserts also were served in honor of the holidays, officials said.
President Regina Truax welcomed members and the evening’s special guests, who consisted of Sharon and Gary Grim and Elba and Ron Hada.
Truax reminded everyone that there will not be a meeting in January. She mentioned the group’s next meeting will take place Feb. 11. She thanked those in the club who serve as telephone callers, reminding members of upcoming meetings. Those on the phone committee include Patty Beltrame, Liz Beecroft, Barbara Purks and Rita Orler. Calls will resume in February, Truax stated.
The president thanked all of the members who donated toys to the club’s collection for the Tri-State Marine Corps Club. Truax noted the “generous amount of toys that were collected” will be appreciated by the corps. Arlia, along with members of the Tri-State Marines, will deliver the toys to local children who are in need this holiday season, she added.
Truax introduced Chelsey Householder, who served as the evening’s entertainment. Householder sang an array of favorite Christmas carols and concluded her performance by singing “God Bless America,” as a tribute to American veterans.
Happy birthday was sung to those who are celebrating a birthday in December. Members include Linda Aloi, Mary Ellen Groves, Debbie Ligas, Patty Coppa, Marlene Dunn and Raida Hassan.
