Decorating contest set
NEW CUMBERLAND — With the holidays quickly approaching, that means it’s time to bring out the decorations. People will be decking the halls — inside and outside. That is why officials have announced that a decorating contest will be held this Christmas season for those residing in New Cumberland. Judges will be looking for designs that are original, colorful and creative.
“Decorations can be traditional or totally far-out,” organizers stated. “This is a great way to put everyone in a festive mood.”
Cash prizes will be awarded, with $75 going to first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. Houses that have only inflatable items and no other type of decorations will not be considered for an award, officials added. The contest runs until Dec. 21, when the three winners will be announced. It’s the merriest time of the year, according to those with the New Cumberland Community Projects and Hines Heights LLC., a local Air bnb, which is sponsoring the event.

Indian Creek to hold music classic
WINTERSVILLE — The Indian Creek Foundation is continuing a musical tradition by hosting “An Evening of Holiday Classics” Dec. 14. The second-annual Christmas concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the Indian Creek High School auditorium and will feature the sounds of the ICHS Jazz Band, the high school choir, the Cross Creek Elementary School Choir, the Hills Elementary School Choir and more.
The event is open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door. Foundation board member Isaac Foldi said the inaugural event was a successful draw and proceeds have benefited the foundation and its programs.
“We believe throughout the evening we had approximately 500 to 700 attendees,” Foldi commented.
Students will help usher in the yuletide holiday with a series of popular tunes, welcoming Santa Claus to town and reminding the audience of the reason for the season. The Indian Creek Foundation is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to advancing students’ educational futures through scholarships, research project initiatives and activities.
