Adena Lions Club to hold Christmas cantata
ADENA — The Adena Lions Club announced its annual Christmas cantata “Appalachian Winter,” will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church, located at 226 Hanna Ave. in Adena and at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, located at 123 Union St.
This year’s performance will feature a 37-person community choir. Composed by Joseph M. Martin, “Appalachian Winter” is a collection of traditional American Christmas songs. It includes well-known carols such as “Away in a Manger” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” along with spirituals, including “Go, Tell It on the Mountain.” Together, the music and narration will tell “a heartfelt story about the Christmas season.”
“The cantata will combine music and narration to present a meaningful Christmas message,” stated director Dustin Kinsey. “This cantata has quickly become a choir favorite. Join us for an hour of heartfelt music and inspiring messages on Sunday. You won’t want to miss this uplifting experience.”
Admission to the event is free, with open seating available. Attendees are encouraged to give a monetary donation, with 100 percent of the proceeds going toward benefiting the Adena and Dillonvale food pantries. Refreshments will be served following the 7 p.m. presentation.
“This will offer a delightful ending to an evening of festive cheer,” Kinsey commented.
The Adena Lions Club Christmas Cantata is a 60-minute musical presentation that aims to capture the beauty and wonder of the Christmas message and season. It has been performed at various locations since its inception in 1986.
The club, consisting of men and women, identifies the needs of the community and works together to fulfill those needs. Members meet the second Wednesday of the month.
