Bill and Phyllis Swan of River Avenue in New Cumberland were announced the winners in the Yard of the Month contest for September. The couple’s neatly-maintained lawn is edged with several gardens filled with mums and other flowers. The yard has various lawn ornaments, including a huge anchor. The Swans received a check from the city, along with a framed certificate and the Yard of the Month sign. The award is sponsored by the city of New Cumberland and New Cumberland Volunteers. “We thank all the winners for 2024 and all those who keep the town looking pretty with their flowers and decorations throughout the year,” organizers stated. “Thanks for making New Cumberland shine.” Those taking place in the check presentation were, from left, Mayor Will White, Phyllis Swan and Bill Swan.
