Evans’ winning art piece was a 36-by-36 inch oil painting entitled “Bedroom Treasury.” This is the third-annual CrowFest, featuring a wide variety of crow-inspired artwork.

Goss has new book published
ADENA — Rena Glover Goss has released her newest book entitled “”Murder on Perrin Run: A Historic Crime in Jefferson County, Ohio.” The book was released for publication Oct. 7 by History Press/Arcadia Publishing.
The true crime book occurred in Jefferson County in 1899. Two trials happened in Steubenville and were covered extensively by the Herald-Star and newspapers in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Idaho and more, Goss explained.
Born and raised in Adena, she earned a master’s degree from Indiana University and taught music for 27 years. She has contributed articles to genealogical publications and holds membership in the Ohio Genealogical Society, Ohio History Connection, Adena Historical Society, Mount Pleasant Historical Society and Smithfield Historical Society. She is active in the Jefferson County Chapter OGS and Harrison County Chapter OGS.
Goss’s book tells of the Cramblett and Gosnell families, who lived on Perrin Run.
Quincy Cramblett was romantically involved with two sisters. First, with Elva Gosnell and later, with her sister, Cora. He frequently proposed marriage but both girls declined due to their father’s objections about the man.
Quincy grew desparate and proposed he and Cora commit suicide. She refused and weeks later, her father was fatally shot. An immediate suspect, Quincy was indicted for the murder following a brief hearing. During the course of the two trials in 1900, local critics differed vehemently about his guilt or innocence.
Crowds packed the courtroom to witness the drama, after which he was acquitted and no one else questioned or indicted for the murder.
Goss unfolds the intricacies of the murder that rocked Jefferson County.
Red Cross says bring friends and give
STEUBENVILLE — It has been 30 years since the television show “Friends,” first aired. This month, the American Red Cross is asking donors to gather their friends and donate blood.
During this time of the year, people are taking part in festive activities. Their calendars are busy. This leads to any routine blood donations falling by the wayside. The number of appointments drop.
That is why the Red Cross needs everyone’s help. Eligible individuals are encouraged to make donating blood a priority — especially those with type O blood.
To celebrate 30 years of “Friends,” those who give blood between today and Dec. 8 will receive two pairs of custom Friends + Red Cross socks, while supplies last. The giveaway is in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products.
Donors can keep a pair and gift a pair of socks, officials said. For details, visit RedCrossBlood.org/Friends.
Appointments can be made by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling (800) 733- 2767.
