Cribbage tournament to benefit teen
STEUBENVILLE — A benefit cribbage tournament for Francis Bergsma is being planned for 10 a.m. Saturday on the third floor of Leonardo’s Coffeehouse, located at 159 N. Fourth St. in Steubenville.
Bergsma is a 15-year-old area resident with a brain tumor, officials explained, adding the fundraiser is to help the family with its medical bill expenses.
There will be a $25 entry fee, with registration to take place at the door. A hand-made cribbage board will be given as the grand prize, organizers announced. Participants are asked to bring their own cribbage board and cards.
Legion to hold euchre tournament
FOLLANSBEE — The American Legion Post 45 in Follansbee will hold a euchre tournament Sunday at the post. The event will be open to the public, with signups to begin at 1 p.m.
The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. There will be a $10 buy-in, officials announced. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
McDonald’s to honor veterans
STEUBENVILLE — McDonald’s will be honoring all Wheeling and Steubenville-area residents who have served in the military this Veterans Day. The fast-food chain announced all local veterans can receive one free breakfast meal or a lunch/dinner meal with a valid proof of service, such as an ID.
The breakfast meal being offered will consist of a sausage McMuffin with egg, a hashbrown and a small coffee. The lunch/dinner meal will consist of a 10-piece chicken McNugget meal, a medium french fries and any sized soft drink, tea or coffee.
The offer is valid only on Monday.
Toronto to hold Veterans Day service
TORONTO — The American Legion Post 86 in Toronto will hold a Veterans Day service for the public at 11 a.m. Monday at the city commons, located at the corner of North Third and Market streets.
The Rev. Mike Bongart will provide the benediction and invocation. Guest speaker will be former Marine Sgt. Jack Ernest and his wife, Patsy.
Ernest serves as president of the Veterans Service Commission of Jefferson County. He is chaplain for the Combat Veteran’s Support Group of Steubenville and was Jefferson County’s Veteran of the Year in 2007.
A commissioner for the Veteran’s Service Commission for the state of Ohio, Ernest is a 2012 inductee into the state of Ohio’s Veterans Hall of Fame in Columbus. He was a recipient of the Legion of Honor award and was a 2019 inductee into the Chapel of the Four Chaplains in Philadelphia.
Master of ceremonies will be American Legion Post 86 Chaplain David Rhodes.
A luncheon for all area veterans will be held following the service at 12:30 p.m. at the post hall.
Class of ’59 holds luncheon
STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville High School Class of 1959 held its October luncheon Oct. 9, with 18 members in attendance. Rosemary Martin Ross and B.J. Moore Fairhurst were welcomed.
Well-wishes were forwarded to Carl and Judy Bell. Norina Eroshevich provided the blessing. Prayers were said for those in the South who have been impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Donna Tepovich Kraska provided a cake for class members celebrating a birthday in October, including Fairhurst. The topic of early and absentee voting was discussed.

Democratic women to meet
WELLSBURG — The monthly meeting of the Brooke County Democratic Executive Committee and the Brooke County Democratic Women, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Wellsburg Library. Refreshments will be served to honor veterans.
All Democrats are welcome to attend.
Library to show drama
FOLLANSBEE — The Follansbee Library will show the rated PG-13 film “Under the Stadium Lights,” at noon on Nov. 15.
Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch to the free screening. Popcorn and water will be provided.

STEUBENVILLE — The Dean Martin Association and Froehlich’s Classic Corner restaurant are planning to hold a Dean Martin Christmas celebration featuring Joe Scalissi at 3 p.m. Dec. 8 at Froehlich’s.
Organizers are inviting the public to attend “an afternoon of smooth Christmas music with the King of Cool.”
