WEIRTON — This week’s episode of Cloak and Dagger On the Air, which is now in its seventh season, will be entitled “Escape!”
Performed in the style of live radio drama, the performance is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, located at 243 Three Springs Drive, Suite 17 in Weirton. Admission is free of charge, with donations accepted.
The monthly theatrical series celebrates audio drama from all eras — particularly the fabled Golden Age of Radio.
By reimagining classic radio dramas and literary works, along with premiering original stories written and produced by independent writer and actor Pete Fernbaugh, Cloak and Dagger On the Air strives to give its audience an immersive experience that engages the theater of their imagination in creating a fully-realized storytelling adventure.
Fernbaugh stated this month’s stories were originally performed on the long-running anthology series “Escape.” He noted this series, along with “Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar,” and “Suspense,” are examples of the golden age of American radio drama.
Stories include “Ancient Sorceries,” by Algernon Blackwood, in which a man stays overnight in a Welsh village where everyone seems to remember him — but he has no memory of them.
“Figure a Dame,” by Richard Sale, tells of a train ride that turns deadly after a wealthy woman’s bodyguard becomes obsessed with a jewel thief. “Action!” by C.E. Montague, tells of a man who attempts to defy the physical impairments from a stroke by scaling a glacier.
Original character Emily Penelope returns with another flight of fancy in “Operation: Stepmother Dearest,” by Fernbaugh.
“I think our audience is in for a fun afternoon,” he said.
“Escape!” features the Wayward Saints members Fernbaugh, Rob DeSantis, Bethany Fernbaugh, Nancy Longo, Karissa Martin, Malachi McClendon, Ralph Parissi, Abby Perry, Terri Perry and Dave Zanieski. Sound effects will be by the Holy Foley Molies.
Classical musician Roberta Fedoush will provide the accompaniment.
Troubadour R.J. Gaudio will perform classic pop, folk and rock favorites when doors open at 3:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be available.
The show will be live-streamed through the Ohio Valley Cloak and Dagger Facebook page, where information is also available.
