STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville High School Key Club will celebrate its diamond jubilee, having served the school and surrounding community for the last 75 years.

The student organization will mark that milestone occasion at 6 p.m. Saturday, with a buffet dinner and cash bar at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern. T-shirts also will be sold.

The Key Club has approximately 175 members, according to Adviser Ross Ivkovich, who said past and present members will be on hand.

Ivkovich stated the club has served the community for decades. He noted it is one of the oldest Key Clubs in Ohio.

“The Key Club was started at Steubenville High School in 1949 as part of the Kiwanis,” he said. “In those 75 years, we’ve had four advisers, three of whom will be recognized at the Honor America observance held Friday. We’re also going to honor former adviser John Georgiafandis at the dinner.”

The Honor America event will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the school auditorium. The event’s keynote speaker will be Eric Timmons and will feature the band and choir performing patriotic music. A reading will be given by a Harding Middle School student who was the winner of the eighth-grade essay contest.

Ivkovich is the fourth adviser to lead the organization. Others include the late William Croskey, Georgiafandis and Joe Biasi. Since its inception, the club has completed service at the school and throughout the community. Activities have included a diaper collection with the Jefferson County General Health District, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, holding a canned food drive before Christmas and beautification done around the city, including cleaning downtown streets and painting curbs.

Ivkovich added the students have aided local organizations and churches.

The group is led by President Natalie Romanyak and Vice President Sarah Ostovich.

Reservations for the dinner can be made by e-mailing Ivkovich at ross.ivkovich@rollred.net.
