Science Center to host Halloween Hunt

PITTSBURGH — The Carnegie Science Center will hold its Halloween Hunt event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Visitors are invited to come in costume and “have a ghoulishly good time.” Families and friends can venture on a non-spooky interactive scavenger hunt throughout all four floors of the museum, collecting stamps and a grand prize upon completion.

Visitors of all ages will enjoy spooktacular fun included with general admission.

Activities will include: Making a potion full of ghostly boo bubbles with the science center’s demonstration theaters team; designing a tiny, take-home haunted house; going into the mind of a mad scientist to make EcoBrix using recycled materials in the Mars: The Next Giant Leap exhibition; listening to not-so-scary stories in Buhl Planetarium for “Storytime Under the Stars;” crafting your own nebula spin art; and searching to “Find Nemo,” on the USS Requin submarine. Those paying an additional cost can explore the Science Behind Pixar exhibit, see the Toy Story of Terror! in the Rangos Giant Cinema, marvel at Laser Family Halloween in Buhl Planetarium and enjoy snacks in the RiverView Café.

Buckeye North to hold trunk-or-treat

BRILLIANT — Students attending Buckeye North Elementary School will celebrate Halloween with a trunk-or-treat activity taking place on Thursday. Organizers estimate approximately 240 students in preschool through fifth-grade will wear their favorite costumes and participate in a parade. Members of the PTO will set up their decorated car trunks and pass out candy during the afternoon. Principal Susan Nolan stated this is the first time for the event, which is being held to add fun to the students’ day. She said the PTO will set up at 1 p.m. and the costume parade will start at 1:30 p.m. The mini-parade will go from Third Street to Ohio Street, and continue onto Second Street before returning to the school.

“When they return, they can pick up treats from about 15 cars and do their parade inside the building,” Nolan said. “They will then go to their classrooms for Halloween parties.” She noted this will be “a sweet way to cap off the day” and get all of the characters they will portray ready for an official night of trick-or-treating.
