Calvary church to provide back-to-school supplies Sunday

STEUBENVILLE — Calvary Community Missionary Baptist Church, located at 511 Woodlawn Road, Steubenville, will be conducting its back-to-school supplies giveaway for any students in the community on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. or until supplies are gone.

Parents should accompany students at the distribution.

Sunday during the 11 a.m. service will include the award of the Sonya and Jeremy McLoyd Scholarship.

Wintersville High School

All-School Reunion Saturday

WINTERSVILLE — The Wintersville High School All-School Reunion, traditionally held on the third Saturday in August, is scheduled for noon on Saturday at Aladdin Land, located at 6355 township Road 166, Bloomingdale.

Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share. Table service, soft drinks and bottled water will be provided. Donations will be accepted, according to organizer Toni Jean Dondzila.

Church recruiting participants for Junk in the Trunk sale

STEUBENVILLE — St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, located at 284 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, will be hosting a Junk in the Trunk sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. outdoors in the parking lot behind the church.

Participants are invited to rent a space for parking for $20. They should bring their own table.

Those interested should call (740) 264-5005 and leave a message. There will be no bathroom facilities for the event. The rain date is Aug. 27.

Brooke County Crochet Club

scheduled to meet Saturday

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Crochet Club will meet at noon on Saturday.

The group is for adults, beginners through experts. Participants should bring their own supplies and projects. For those who need help, someone will be available to offer assistance or instruction.

Spay-neuter clinic taking

appointments for Oct. 1 and 2

STEUBENVILLE — The Brooke County Animal Welfare League will host a Roaming Animal Sterilization Clinic at Low Cost visit to the Steubenville American Legion Post 33 on 805 N. Fifth St. on Oct. 1 and 2.

All interested pet owners may schedule an appointment by calling (304) 374-4443. Walk-ins won’t be accepted. Appointments are not limited to Brooke County residents.

Grace’s Cupboard Food Pantry holding distribution Thursday

STEUBENVILLE — Grace’s Cupboard Food Pantry will be held on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The food pantry is at Grace Lutheran Church, located at 2105 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Questions can be directed to (740) 282-9064.

First responders appreciation golf outing is held in Weirton

WEIRTON — Law enforcement officers, firefighters and other first responders from Weirton and Hancock and Brooke counties participated in a golf scramble recently held at Williams Golf and Country Club.

Ten foursomes participated in the event, sponsored by Williams Golf and Country Club and owner J.C. Markovitz in appreciation of the service and sacrifices if area first responders. The first responders were provided complimentary green fees and cold beverages. The city of Weirton and Domino’s pizza provides pizza for all golfers.

Nearly $900 was collected from the first responders and was donated to the city of Weirton’s emergency service departments.

The first responders expressed their appreciation to Markovitz and the golf staff at Williams Golf and Coutry Club, including golf pros Brian Grogan and Eric DiGori for their assistance as well as event organizers officers Reese Thompson and Tony Apesos of the Weirton Police Department and local attorneys Vincent Gurrera and Dan McCune.
