CEOS has applications available for scholarship

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Newview chapter of the West Virginia University Community Educational Outreach Service will be presenting a $500 scholarship to one deserving Hancock County senior in 2022.

Application is open to seniors in any of the county’s three high schools as well as to seniors who have been home-schooled.

According to CEOS President Becky Wiegers, the scholarship will be based on income, merit and a written essay. Gross family income must be at or below the median family income for Hancock County (currently $46,000), and applicants must have a grade-point average of not less than 2.5.

The essay may be of any length, provided it is at least 500 words, and must be on the topic of volunteerism and its impact on a community or, on a personal level, the writer.

Applications can be obtained by calling the WVU Hancock County Extension Office in New Cumberland at (304) 564-3805.

The applications must be completed and returned to the office, with supporting documentation, no later than May 31.

The Community Education Outreach Service is one of several volunteer organizations of the West Virginia University Extension service.

Its mission is to strengthen individuals and families through continuing education, community service and leadership development.
