speaker at PERI meeting

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County PERI District 9, Chapter 5 had its October meeting at Eat ‘n Park.

President Judy Krenzel introduced Jefferson County General Health District Health Commissioner Andrew Henry, who discussed the COVID-19 issue in the county.

The speaker for the November meeting will be District 9 Representative Jim Range. Details will be announced at a later date.

Additional PERI officers are Rosemary O’Brian, vice president; Francesca Veltri, secretary; and John McDevitt, treasurer.

All PERI members are welcomed to attend.

Halloween-fall harvest event is Oct. 30 at Bethany center

BETHANY — Representatives of the town and college will team up for a Halloween-Fall Harvest event from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Bethany Community Center.

It will include games and other activities organized by Bethany College physical education and sports science students from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; a costume contest from 5:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.; and a parade hosted by the Bethany Fire Department from 5:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. The town’s trick-or-treat hours will follow from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Brooke County first responders

invited to free dinner Oct. 28

FOLLANSBEE — The Follansbee Chamber of Commerce will hold a free dinner for all Brooke County first responders on Oct. 28 at St. Francis Centre.

Invitations have been sent to local police, fire and ambulance departments, but anyone who was unaware of the event is asked to make a reservation by calling (304) 527-3657 by Monday.

Evening story hour based

on ‘Amy Wu’ and dragon

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will hold an evening story hour based on “Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon” at 5 p.m. Oct. 27.

Harrison CWC plans annual sale of used Christmas items

HOPEDALE — Harrison County Catholic Woman’s Club is sponsoring its 20th-annual sale of used Christmas items during a two-weekend period in November.

It will be held at Sacred Heart Church Hall in Hopedale.

The dates are Nov. 5, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Brooke Hills Free Methodist

Church to hold trunk or treat

WELLSBURG — Brooke Hills Free Methodist Church, at 1340 Washington Pike, will host a trunk-or-treat from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Brooke Hills Park. It is for ages birth to eighth grade.
