Amsterdam Summerfest is Aug. 28

AMSTERDAM — Amsterdam Summerfest is a first-time event on the calendar for next month.

It will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Aug. 28 at Roger’s Park, located at 1 Shannon St., Amsterdam.

“This event is free to the public, including citizens from surrounding communities,” noted Jim Phillips, who serves as mayor of Amsterdam but explained the event is not being hosted by the village of Amsterdam.

“This is a private event being hosted by myself and the Amsterdam Community Church of God with help from our sponsors and volunteers,” he explained.

Movin and Groovin will be handling the entertainment, including but not limited to several inflatables, games, popcorn, cotton candy and Sno cones, according to Phillips.

“The Amsterdam Community Church of God will be on site handing out free hot dogs, and Kathy Randalson will be there selling her amazing kettle corn. DJ Chelsea Matta Householder will be on site to keep the party rocking. We also will be hosting vendors and food trucks,” he explained.

All vendors and food trucks must RSVP to Phillips by Aug. 23 by calling (740) 457-7089 or reaching him through Facebook on Messenger. There will be a $10 setup fee for vendors and food trucks to help with advertising costs. Vendors and food trucks can begin to set up at 9:30 a.m.

“This event is completely free with the obvious exception of vendor items and food truck items,” he explained. “Popcorn, cotton candy, Sno cones and hot dogs are all free.”

Anyone wishing to play on the inflatables must have a waiver of liability signed by a parent or guardian. They t will be given a wristband. There will be a booth at the event to get wristbands, and registration will start at 11:30 a.m.

The entertainment is co-sponsored by ISW and Movin and Groovin Productions. Householder also is a sponsor as is Amsterdam Community Church of God. All donations for the event will be handled by the Amsterdam Community Church of God, according to Phillips. Anyone interesting in being a sponsor or donating toward the event can contact the Rev. David Guess at the Amsterdam Community Church of God or Phillips.

All monetary donations or vendor fees should be in the form of a check made out to the Amsterdam Community Church of God with Summerfest in the memo. Donations of cases of water and drinks will be accepted.
