Mammogram screening for women 40 and older

STEUBENVILLE — The “Mammograms & Lunch” women’s mammogram screening being held as part of the Minority Health Month observance in Jefferson County is for women age 40 and older.

Age information in a story on Monday’s community page was incorrect.

Spaces are limited for the screening that will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 23 at the Tiffany Breast Care Center Mobile Unit, which will be stationed at Urban Mission’s Fresh Market Pantry parking lot located at 311 N. Sixth St., Steubenville.

The screening is for women who are insured or uninsured and residents of Ohio only.

The Neighborhood Community Development Center of Urban Mission will partner with the North West Ohio Breast and Cervical Cancer Project of Fulton County, the Tiffany Breast Care Center of Mahoning County and the Breast Health & Breast Cancer Prevention Program for African American Women of Jefferson County to provide the screenings and diagnostic services.

“The State of Minority Health” is the theme for April’s observance of Minority Health Month in Jefferson County.

Ohio Valley Dressage Association plans April event

RICHMOND — The Ohio Valley Dressage Association, a local dressage club that hosts horse-related events and activities to promote dressage, is hosting a tack sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 24 at Blue Magnum Stables, 1044 township Road 286, Richmond.

There is a $2 admission fee, and there will be concessions.

Quarter auction to benefit festival

FOLLANSBEE — A quarter auction to benefit Follansbee Community Days will be held April 17 at the Follansbee Community House.

Doors will open at noon, with the bidding to begin at 1 p.m. The cost is $5 for the first paddle and $1 for each additional paddle. Guests may bring their own quarters or purchase them at the door.

Brooke libraries to close early

WELLSBURG — On April 13, the Brooke County Public Library will close at 5 p.m. and the Follansbee Library will be close at 4:45 p.m. on April 13 for staff development and training.

‘News of World’ to be shown

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Library will be showing “News Of The World,” a PG-13 rated film based on a novel of the same name, at noon April 16.

Library book club to meet April 29

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library Book Club will meet at 5 p.m. April 29 at 5 p.m. in person and virtually to discuss Katherine P. Manley’s “Don’t Tell’em You’re Cold: A Memoir of Poverty and Resilience.”

Participants will receive the April book. The club is free and open to the public.

At this time only nine people may attend in person to maintain social distancing, but others may arrange to participate virtually by calling (304) 737-1551. The book can be requested and placed on hold at no cost by calling the above number or visiting https://wvreads.overdrive.com.

Summer learning program offered

WELLSBURG — Brooke County Schools will be offering a summer learning program for all students, grades K-12.

Funded through the state’s Summer Student Opportunities for Learning and Engagement grant program, it will be held from 8:30 a.m to 2 p.m. June 14 through July 9 except for June 21, which is West Virginia Day.

It will offer students comprehensive in-person summer learning experiences that are interactive, engaging and address academic and social-emotional needs.

Students will be provided meals and transportation. The program will focus on the core content areas of reading, math and science, and include additional integrated activities to further engage students in the arts, wellness and physical activities. The elementary program will be blended with the West Virginia University Extension Service’s Energy Express summer reading program.
