Online auction, drive-through spaghetti dinner Saturday aims at ‘helping frontline hero’
BLOOMINGDALE — Friends of registered nurse and mother-to-be Chelsie Cammer have organized a “Helping our frontline hero” fundraiser that includes an online auction on Facebook and a drive-through spaghetti dinner from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m Saturday.
Co-worker Heather Barker-Cooper is among those organizing the fundraiser that involves an online auction featuring a variety of items and under way now through 6 p.m. Saturday. Items are continuing to be added with the auction accessible through Barker-Cooper’s Facebook page or the event page.
The drive-through dinner will feature spaghetti, salad, roll and drink for a $10 donation at the Belvedere Fire Department, 92 Janet Drive, Bloomingdale. Delivery will be offered for those ordering four or more meals. The phone number is (740) 264-4132. Orders can be placed beginning at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Baked goods will be available.
“You must pay for the items after the auction is complete through Venmo, PayPal, Facebook pay or you may come back to the fire hall and pick up your item by 8 p.m.”
“She is one of the sweetest, most caring nurses I have ever had the privilege to work with,” registered nurse Barker-Cooper said of Cammer, her Trinity West emergency room co-worker who has been in the ER as a nurse for about two years.
“She was so excited when she found out she was pregnant,” she continued, explaining Cammer was about 27 weeks’ pregnant when she was diagnosed with COVID-19. “She fought it at home for a bit, then was brought to the ER one night and, due to her oxygen levels being low, she was placed on a vent for a short time, but managed to squeeze her husband’s hand while intubated and still remained positive. The baby the whole time was her concern. He is doing great, according to her doctor and sonograms. She will not be allowed to return to work until after the baby is here and healthy, which will probably be in June,” Barker-Cooper continued. “The benefit will help with medical costs and help reduce stress while off work.”
As part of the fundraiser, there also will be a “diaper drawing” for those wanting to participate. “We will have tickets, and if you bring a pack of diapers, you will be entered into a drawing as she will not be allowed to have a shower,” Barker-Cooper noted. There also is a baby registry at www.babylist.com/ChelsieCammer.
