Wintersville Woman’s Club

cancels Thursday meeting

WINTERSVLLE — Because of precautionary measures, the Wintersville Woman’s Club has canceled its luncheon and business meeting that was to be have been held at noon on Thursday at St. Florian EVent Center.

The announcement was made by club President Pat Ketzell. A decision on the December meeting status will be made.

Mingo Knights to conduct

reverse drawing on line

MINGO JUNCTION — The Mingo Knights of Columbus reverse drawing will be conducted Nov. 21 under different circumstances, according to Grand Knight Shawn Zarych.

Because of COVID-19 precautionary measures, there will be no in-person event or dinner.

The drawing will be done live on Zarych’s Facebook page at Shawn sez Zarych.

Winners will be posted on Zarych’s Facebook page and the hall’s Facebook page.

Gun drawing fundraiser

to benefit Boy Scouts Council

WINTERSVILLE — A gun drawing fundraiser will benefit the Ohio River Valley Council Boy Scouts of America.

It is being sponsored by Precision Tire and Alignment, located at 91 Maplewood Ave., Wintersville. A live drawing will be held Dec. 18.

Tickets are a $20 donation and can be purchased at Precision Tire, (740) 264-7944 or the BSA Council Office, (304) 277-2660. Tickets will be mailed or e-mailed to purchasers.

There are five guns being offered, and each ticket has the possibility to win all five guns.

Children’s Christmas party

MINGO JUNCTION — The Mingo Knights of Columbus Children’s Christmas party will still be held this year, just in a different way, according to Shawn Zarych, grand knight, Mingo Knights of Columbus.

“This will be a drive-through only children’s Christmas party in order to keep everyone safe,” he explained, noting the drive-through will be held in front of the Mingo Knights of Columbus Hall at 1 p.m. on Dec. 6 with treats being passed out.

It will be limited, however, to 35 children.

Reservations are a must, and specific information must be provided by the Dec. 3 deadline. That includes full name and phone number, boy or girl and age. Reservations can be called into the hall at (740) 535-8037 or by e-mail to shawno1963@gmail.com or by Facebook at Shawn sez Zarych, messenger.

Help available for first-time homebuyers in area counties

WEIRTON — C.H.A.N.G.E. Inc. and the Northern Panhandle Home Consortium are offering a $10,000 grant for first-time homebuyers to purchase a home in Brooke or Hancock counties.

The grants can be used with most mortgage loan programs and are forgiven after the recipient has lived in the home for a specific period of time.

Baked steak dinner at

Hill Top Presbyterian

TORONTO — Hill Top Presbyterian Church, 110 county Road 46, Toronto, will be holding a takeout only baked steak dinner from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The menu includes baked steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad and cake. Donations are appreciated.

“You must come inside to pick up your meal,” a church spokesperson noted. “Thank you to those who supported our last dinner, and we apologize to those who didn’t get served as we sold out early. More will be prepared for the Nov. 18 dinner.”

Christmas cookie sale

WEIRTON — A cash-only homemade Christmas cookie sale to benefit St. Joseph the Worker Grade School will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 12 at St. Joseph Grade School gymnasium, 151 Michael Way, Weirton.

The cost is $4 per half dozen (all pre-packaged). Face masks and social distancing will be requested.

WELLSBURG — During the pandemic, the Brooke County Public Library’s Cook by the Book Recipe Club has continued through virtual presentations offered by Alexandra Schneider, the library’s director; and Kim Harless, director of educational programs.

On Nov. 24 at noon, they will present recipes for Christmas cookies at the library’s Facebook page.

Brooke, Follansbe Libraries

announce holiday hours

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 25 and its Follansbee branch will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day.

Both libraries will be closed Nov. 26-29.

Letters to Santa offered

WELLSBURG — The Friends of Brooke County Libraries have arranged to send letters from Santa Claus to children.

The cost is $2.50, and the letters, which are addressed to each child and will be available until Dec. 14 by visiting either location or https://lettersfromsantabcpl.weebly.com.
