Chapter initiates new members

The A.H.E.P.A. Hancock County Chapter No. 103 recently initiated two new members — Shanon Schuetzner and John Porco — into the order. On hand were, seated, from left, Gary Mastromichalis, George Antoniou, Nick Proakis and George Payne; and standing, Steve Psaros, Schuetzner, A.H.E.P.A. President James Banketas and Porco. The chapter was formed in 1926 and has been involved in various international, state and local projects. Some of those include donations to West Virginia, Florida and Houston flood relief; national A.H.E.P.A. Greece Fire Relief Fund; Community Bread Basket; United Way; First United Methodist Table of Hope; First Christian Church Backpack Program; and Weirton Festival of Nations. The chapter raised more than $16,000 for the Weirton Christian Center building. As part of community event involvement, the chapter for 11 years sponsored the Thanksgiving dinner for the children and staff of the Weirton Christian Center and Dunbar Recreation Center. It also provided 130 blessing bags packed with various food products for the children to take home. Members also have been active with the Salvation Army’s kettle campaign; with Memorial Day and Veterans Day wreath presentations, and have provided cooked turkeys and hams and helped prepare for the Weirton Ministerial Association Community Thanksgiving dinner. “After careful consideration, a difficult decision was made to cancel many of their community and chapter fundraising projects,” a news release noted. “This was done for the concern of the chapter members and for members of the community, due to the COVID-19 virus.”
