Area Agency on Aging plans

virtual chronic pain workshop

CAMBRIDGE — The Area Agency on Aging Region 9 is holding a virtual chronic pain workshop beginning July 13 and running for six weeks.

Microsoft Teams will be the chosen platform for the workshop that will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 3 p.m. for each session. All participants will receive a workbook, exercise and relaxation CD in the mail. There is no cost for the virtual workshop, a Healthy U program offering.

“Healthy U is an evidence-based, interactive, small group workshop proven to improve quality of life and reduce health care expenses by increasing self-confidence and providing new skills to better manage symptoms and feel healthier,” a news release notes. Participants develop skills and coping strategies to manage symptoms through setting achievable goals, problem-solving, decision-making, social support, and more, according to officials.

Participants must reside in one of Area Agency on Aging’s nine counties, which include Jefferson, Harrison, Carroll, Belmont, Coshocton, Guernsey, Holmes, Muskingum or Tuscarawas. Other requirements are having an e-mail address to communicate with the facilitators and reliable Internet service.

“This is a great way to learn about chronic pain, how to manage your life while living with chronic pain or help a loved one who is suffering,” a spokesperson said. “Holding a virtual online workshop provides people the option of learning in the comfort of their own home.” AAA9 will need at least four individuals to sign up to hold this virtual event. To do so, e-mail Carol Baker, cbaker@aaa9.org, or call (740) 435-4704. The registration deadline is Friday.
