Tri-State Winemakers Club
announces officers elected
STEUBENVILLE — The Tri-State Winemakers Club held its monthly meeting on March 12 with new leaders for the group selected.
New officers elected for a two-year term were: President, Wendell Barner; vice president, Jon Patton; treasurer, Linda Cole; and secretary, Ben Beswick. Barner led a wine discussion about softening red wine by allowing the wine to go through maloactic fermentation (or maloactic conversion) after primary fermentation, but before stabilizing. This will reduce malic acid by converting it to lactic acid, which is less harsh than malic acid, he explained.
Members discussed possible social activities, such as train tours, winery visits, going out to dinner and going to Broadway theaters. The meeting was capped off with an Hawaiian-themed meal hosted by Wendell and Ellen Barner. There were 24 members present.
The next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, pending COVID-19 status.
